This problem occured on Nokia 6500 Slide, Firmware Version 03.80, which is running S40 5th Edition, I am unsure if it happens to other phones running the same or earlier editions.

Well, of course you would know ‘bug’ here is referring to problem with the firmware, not any kind of insect in the phone.

I selected a rather loud message tone for my phone, but came to realize I have been missing some messages when they came in. A double check just now made me realized that the message tone became very soft. Tried many other tones and the same problem occurs.

I have already adjusted the ring tone volume to the max and there’s no problem hearing the incoming call alert. The original message tones inside the phone’s system work fine as well. The only problem lies with the tones other than those default ones.

Wondering maybe there’s other ways of controlling the volume, I played with the phone for a while and found out the volume of message tone is actually affected by the volume of the music player.

Message tone can be as loud as incoming call alert if I adjust the music player’s volume to the maximum, and goes softer as volume is adjusted lower.

A check using Nokia’s phone update software shows no newer update for the firmware, so I guess no one raised this problem to Nokia yet, or maybe there’s not a solution to this yet.

Hopefully in future updates this problem will be solved. I mean, they can’t expect users to always turn the player to the loudest just so that we can hear the message alert, right?
