As promised, here is the entry on the phone I recently got through the free handset upgrade. More infomation on the issue is here.
And here is the phone.
Yes, thank you, I like the photo too. My table was very messy and I just stacked some files and used a Polo-T as background while taking the photos.
Anyway, this phone is Nokia 6500 Slide. The main selling point is the stainless steel casing, simple yet stylish design and a Carl Zeiss 3.2MP camera with auto focus function.
This phone doesn’t have many functions as the many S60 (Symbian) Nokia phones I had used (6600, 7610, 6670, 6260, N-Gage, the list is too long…), but I think it fulfills my general needs.
Despite its small size (it is shorter and thinner than Nokia 6280), it weights 124 grams, which, together with the stainless steel body, give user a very solid feeling holding it in hand.
Nokia 6500 Slide is one of the first few phone running the S40 5th Edition system. It supports all the applications and themes for the previous editions and at the same time added more handy features which make communication more efficiently.
As you can see from the first photo, there’s not many buttons on the exterior. At the side, there are only the volume control and camera buttons. No bottuns at the bottom, and that’s it. All connection ports are at the top of the phone (USB, audio/video out and power).
Number keys are large and hard to miss. Response is a bit hard but I am already used to it.
Back of the phone, engraved Logos on stainless steel casing make the phone stand out.
This is the inner side of the back casing. As you can see, the speaker openings are made through laser cutting. Ribs between openings are oxidized due to high temperature during laser cutting. Inner components are spot-welded to the casing. Because glue does not function well between metals.
This is the first time ever that I appreciate the workmanship of Nokia. Just look at the processes they use in order to manufacture a small piece of phone casing.
Last but not least, the elastic pouch I purchased at Orchard Road yesterday for S$2. I don’t really like the ‘beng’ pattern, but it’s black in colour and it serves the purpose.
At least two friends are intending to get the phone after I have shown it to them. I would really recommend it to crazy Nokia fans.
Price: S$168 with 2-year plan
