Well, I heard about the release of subject results first from a friend who’s not even studying in NTU, so funny. I know it’s on 28 Dec, but according to past experiences, it’s sometimes only released in the afternoon. So I was quite surprised to know it’s already out just after midnight.

I went to the website, and as expected, the school server was jammed. F5-ing and waiting made me more nervous, and my heart was trying hard to get out of my body.

I was afraid, because the subjects were tough last semester (at least to me, yes), and I didn’t prepare well for the exams. Also I was taking 8 subjects with 23 AUs, when the normal load for final year students is about 15 AUs.

And then the page finished loading, no E, no F, and no X, Clear Pass!

Yes, that’s the first thing I was worrying about. I know, for some of you out there, the first thing you do is to count the number of A+, then A, then… But for me, a clear pass is more important than anything else.

Here are the detailed descriptions inspired by Nicole’s post.

MP4A01 Aerodynamics - D+
This is kind of the hardest subject among all for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) final year students. It’s so hard that there were only 35 students who have selected this subject last semester. I would really have given up if I knew it’s so difficult at the beginning. However, this is also a very very interesting subject. It solved a lot of my doubts not only in study but in daily life as well. Although, the calculation part was not so friendly. Luckily Continual Assessment (CA) took 30% of total score. So, D+ is within my expectation. Thank you Kap Lam for helping me with my CAs.

MP4A02 Aircraft Structures - C
The first 35% of this subject was very interesting. Why? Because it was all talking, no calculation. Ha. And after the first part, it’s like from heaven to hell - 90% or more of the notes become equations, formulas and numbers. To make it worse, I spotted the wrong chapter for the final exam, and end up hoping for all questions I ever answered to be correct in order to pass. And yes I passed. I guess the first part of the subject and CA (20%) saved my ass.

MP4A03 Aircraft Propulsion - B-
The result is better than expected, but I was quite certain that I would have passed. Good to know things taught in this subject, but no regret if I didn’t take it either.

After passing the 3 subjects mentioned above, I can now proudly say that I am not just a Mechanical Engineering student, but also one that is specialized in Aeronautical Engineering. Because a student need to take at least 3 subjects from one category to have it as his specialization.

MP4004 Advanced Manufacturing and Nanotechnology - B
This subject is not difficult, but there’s tons of things to memorize. This is maybe the only subject that I had systematically revised, for one day. I believe the professors were very merciful as some difficult questions never come out. In fact I left the examination hall 40 minutes early. Because I had already written down what I knew, and spending more time won’t help me to memorize anything else.

MP4005 Fluid Dynamics - C
Yet another interesting subject, with good professors. And I guess my CA was pretty well done (with some known mistakes though), but too bad the prof was too busy to let me know my results. Exam was hard and I didn’t revise well, nevertheless I passed.

MP4008 Human Resource Management - B-
Result is better than expected. For this subject, 100% of score goes to final exam. Sad to say I skipped almost all the lectures. This could have been an interesting subject, but too bad I didn’t like the professor’s teaching style. Revision was last minute, but guess my ideas were there, so my marks were there too.

HW310 Professional Communication - B+
This is a very important final year subject for all students. In this subject you learn about resume writing, public speaking and interviewing techniques. Score is 100% based on CAs and class participation (attendence I suppose). I must thank Daphne for helping me to edit my resume, and thank Jindong for being a great groupmate in public speaking project.

HP801 Mind Over Stress - B-
I like this subject. So although the class is from 6 to 9pm on every Monday, also because attendence contribute to my final score, I almost attended all the lessons. We were taught about what is stress, how to deal with stress, and what do we need to prevent stress. Very interesting subject. I even told my friends and my other professors about this subject and shared what I have learnt with them. The lecturer was an experienced psychologist from Singapore Police Force, and occasionally she share some very interesting stories of her own work with us.

Ok, it’s a total of 5 B, 2 C and 1 D. By now your curiosity should have been fully fulfilled. Or maybe you are already bored. So this is the end of the entry.

I have another 20 AUs, or 7 subjects to clear for this coming semester, and my Final Year Project too. Give me courage, wish me luck!
